I took the rear tire off to get it changed and I figured I'd check the bearing while I had it apart , sure enough it's getting rough spots where the bearing hangs up a little . So it's time to change it even though 7200 miles should be a little premature. Anyways I got reading around and saw that the stock bearings are junk , so I figured I'd go to napa and get a SKF bearing but the bearing is no longer available . So long story short I was wondering if any one has found a better bearing and if so where too?
Haha I thought I said what bike it was going on oops . Going on my 08 sportster custom with the solid cast wheel
Both my Buell wheels needed new bearings after less than 5k miles, unfortunately your bike is from an era when that was common. If you can remove a bearing, simply take it to any auto store or bearing factor, as they can supply an alternative, as lo-rider suggests. I actually got my Buell bearings from my local Yamaha dealer, they had them on the shelf.
If you can hear it, it's shot, and about to fail catastrophically. Consider yourself lucky.
no, I don't buy that, if that were the case Harley would have had the hell sued out of them by now for putting defective bearings in,, especially if something like that could cause an accident. i'll let it go until next tire change, if anything happens Harley going to get the hell sued out of them, would teach them a lesson about putting crap parts on their bikes, I'm pretty fed up with it, would never buy another Harley seeing how many things have failed on the sportsters, they're fun bikes but if they can't even put a decent bearing in,, this is the most fundamental part on the bike, the wheel,, Harley can't even make a wheel that is reliable? And they're fooling around putting liquid cooled heads in their Big vtwins, yet they cant even put a decent wheel bearing in, what a joke. what did they save putting cheap bearings in? $15? money junkie thinking. Don't they understand the most important, basic thing about building vehicles is the damn thing to be safe & reliable?
