Default servicing woops

lesson learned... was getting close to the 1000 mile service mark and still hadn't received my service manual so went ahead and changed the oil. service manual came in today and danget the clutch has to be adjusted with the oil drained :/ oh well still cheaper to drain the case and do it myself. oh says to replace the gasket for the clutch cover, anyone have experience that can say its really necessary? I would guess it depends if its the paper or o-ring type

You dont need to drain the oil to adjust the clutch.

When I change the primary oil I drain it and refill it through the inspection plate, no new derby cover gasket needed. You will need to pull the derby cover to adjust the clutch.

Keep in mind if anything odd comes out in the fluid you may want to pull the derby cover and inspect inside even on a fluid change.

I just serviced my bike and had a new gasket available if required, but the old one has worked fine. If I get a leak I have the means of putting it right, or will replace the gasket at the next service.

When you drain your primary oil it's always wise to remove derby cover and verify fill level to right at bottom of diaphragm spring. At times that extra few oz you didn't need can cause minor issues.

Thanks for all the useful info! I was just reading off the service manual. I'll open it up this afternoon and see what happens. I'll just leave a drip pan under the bike.

Opened it up and the oil level is good to go. Did it with the service manual and I could see exactly at what level it was talking about the oil level needed to be with the derby cover off. I never noticed how scratched up that cover gets till now, lol.
