I have a 2005 Sportster Custom 1200. I cant figure out what the problem is and have sunk money into this thing to no avail. Bike starts fine and runs decent at idle. It's cold natured I get it. However, when I go to throttle up a bit it bogs down and backfires/stalls/cracks. It's only initial thrust that stalls and it does this warm or cold consistently. Once I'm up to speed(if I can get there) it's fine. I put custom drag pipes on it and took it to Harley to get the carb re-jetted. They charged $363 and quoted me $150. Yea. Anyway they told me that it still ran like crap and the Crank position sensor was reading on the diagnostic as faulty. I bought a new one and replaced it myself and it still does the same thing. Anyone experienced this? I'm so frustrated with it right now, any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

I've learned to start with the simple stuff. Did you check your plugs...wires?
had a guy tell me it might be the needle in the carb needing to be shimmed a bit. ive got the tank off,air filter and about to pull off the top of the carb and see if shimming it helps. It spits and backfires at initial throttle and it seems like Ive tried everything but shimming the needle.
Did the bike run fine before the drag pipes?
If so than the problem is jetting. By the description of your symptoms it sounds like you need a bigger pilot jet (idle to mid rpms).
363 dollars for rejetting? They ripped you off to the extreme. Rejetting is like a 20-30minute job. Did they dyno it for proper jetting? If so that price would make sense.

That might actually help. Before you do that check if there is vertical movement in the needle if so then a slim would fix the problem (your bike will run more rich though). Also when you experience your symptoms, does the slide in the carb go down? This would further suggest a problem with the needle or slide.
Your problem is probably no one probably knows how to work on a carb at a Harley shop anymore. Was it doing this before you put pipes on it? Has it sat up for a while?
