Exclamation New Handlebars. (install inside)

Just like every other forum I've been a part of, if there aren't any pics, it didn't happen so here we go. Tomorrow AM at 630 I am starting my handlebar swapout from the factory iron bars these.... to the new bars Here... The new bars are Jammer 8" Z bars. I went with this bar because I didn't want to mess with the new cable hassle, plus never having elevated bars, I may not like it, and there's nothing to lose on a couple hour project. I messed around with the clutch side grip tonight, but it was getting dark...and it is obvious to me immediately that I will be cutting the zip ties and re-zipping them for different tensions.... any way. I'll be posting pics as I go, but let's hope all goes well.

630am...mocking up the bars to see if it's worth it.

After about 15 seconds of this view, I determined It's worth it

I read some stuff on the forum and watched a good youtube video, so I got my 2 tools ready.... (actually 3 if you count something to cut the zip ties with. I read some guys getting enough cable slack to leave on the levers, but I didn't see the point. I figured why pull that much slack through, when you get done, it'll have to go back through anyway...

Here is with the speedo bolts pulled out... (get a friend to help you, this was a pain...)

Once I used the torx bit to loosen the 2 bolts on the grip she slid right off no problem. (note: the factory iron handlebars weren't painted on the ends... this makes a difference later on.

Speedo out of the way so I could take off the headlamp. Worth noting. unless you have a super long allen key or a t-handle the headlamp has to come off.... I took it off anyway, I'll explain when I get there.

This is just showing old vs. new....quite a difference. (bike cover doubles as a asphalt protector.

Up until this point I hadn't pulled out any wires to create additional length per my previous reasoning. I put the new bars on all the way forward to just get them locked in so they wouldn't hit or scratch on anything.

At this point I unbolted the brake line and started working the angle on that... super simple, almost didn't need pliers.

I did the exact reverse steps and at this point started pulling wire through as i needed it. I feel like you could get 10" out of the wires, but not the brake line.

Took off the towel to see if I'm even

Here is is all done except for removal of the mirrors and zip tying the wires back in. Forgot to get zip ties at work and all I have is red ones....ya. not happening.

Here's where I left it for now.... mirrors off and not ziptied in. My son takes a nap at 10:30 so the wife will be occupied with him and I will be making a trip to the store to determine 1)If I need to adjust the angle and 2)If all functions are good to go.

Started her up before putting all the tools away.. Sounds like the motor is idling slightly higher than usual...then again, Haven't started it in a few days due to bad weather. Wonder if I pinched a cable or wire somewhere along the way... I don't visually see and kinks... hmm. any ideas?

If the Idle is higher than it was check you throttle return cable. Moving the cables around can make one tighter than it was. The adjusters are under the boots on the cables.

The other thing to check is the little brake shoe under the throttle grip where the cables attach. It only sits on a little point on the star adjuster and is easy to get out of place and in a bind where the throttle wont return all the way as it hits the boss the cables attach to.

Do not ask how I know this it's embarrassing.

Thanks for the info. After running around town a while it seems to have settled out when I come to a stop. Maybe it was just because it sat a couple days...

As far as the brake line, can you post some pictures of the metal part of the line? I am going to do the same length of bars and want to see how to bend the line to make it fit the higher bars. Can you also explain what you did to it? I'm afraid to put a kink in it or break it.

Been there done that ... don't waste your time. Measure the lenght you need using a piece of string, then order a new Goodridge brake line and proper angled fittings from J&P Cycles.

Per the previous post... Ordering a new line would be the better choice, but I don't have a garage to bleed the lines or the time to do it so the 15 second bend worked just fine. I'll get some pics up tomorrow.

After running these for a couple days now, I'll never go back. Must have mod for me. I love them.

Like to see how bad the brake line was stretched?
