I noticed a little slipping in 5th gear and shifting was requiring more and more pressure on the shifting lever to change gears. Neutral was nearly impossible to find with the bike running. When i'd start the bike in neutral and drop it in gear, the rpms drop and the bike starts moving forward with the clutch lever fully pulled in.
I adjusted the clutch and the cable just as the book instructs.
The slipping appears to be gone but after a short ride shifting starts to get harder again. Neutral is still impossible and the freeplay in the cluch cable is gone. I readjust the free play, take a short ride and the free play is gone again.
Any help ?
Bike has under 30k miles. Ridden gently.
One of the most frequent indicators of a failing Spring Plate in the clutch assembly, is the inability to keep the clutch in correct adjustment, and 30,000 miles is where many people experience this problem.
I strongly suggest you stop riding the bike until you can get the clutch apart for inspection. If caught early, the Spring Plate repair is not too expensive. If you keep riding it with a failing Spring Plate, you might wind up having to replace the clutch basket.
