Default Need help in Japan!!!

First time poster but dying for help here! A couple months back my 99 Sporty 1200 started backfiring badly, lost all RPMs (even with throttle twist), and died (only happens when warm-starts great and runs when cold steel). Since then I've replaced batt, coil, carb, plugs, wires, and vacuum hoses between petcoc and carb and still having the issue. Took it to a mech who is draining me dry and still can't find the issue. Picking her up tomorrow and plan to do a heat test on the ignition module, crank position sensor, and ECM and am looking for recommendations on where to go first. All wires are tight and not a bad gas issue (tried multiple octanes on multiple fill ups). In Japan it's a pain since HD shops don't speak English and it takes forever to get parts from the US so if anyone can make a recommendation and help a submarine Sailor out on his easter egg hunt I'd be much obliged.

Any recent mods to the bike before this situation started/appeared?

A set of plug wires but that's all. The only other thing was the mounting bracket for my speedo and tach snapped from the bike's vibration during winter riding here; I didn't see any wire wear going into the gages and have been holding it together with a zip tie while I wait from a new one from Stateside.

When's the last time anyone ran through your carb? Seems like you could have something amiss...

Also, the mech can't find any bare/loose/rubbing wires anywhere? Don't think it would be electrical as you're having problem when bike's warmed-up. Has to be fuel...somewhere.

The carb is brand new and the mech checked the jets. I'm going to hand over hand the wiring when I get her back; the reason thinking electrical is the rear plug has no spark when hot-even after coil replacement. This made the mech think ignition module or ECM.

When I pick up the bike tomorrow I'll look at them.

Your troubles could be related to the intake and it's seals. A leaking intake can become worse when heated, and could be better cold, while seals are cold they may be doing their job.

Mist the intake sealing points on the heads and the intake while running with anything from water to choke cleaner (do not get on painted surfaces). Moistening the intake cold may not register any change in engine speed. Get it hot and try again. Be sure you are not allowing the spray into the air filter because this will cause the engine to respond.

The leaky intake is one of the top 5 Harley engine troubles. Search the forum and you'll find hours of reading all about it.

If you still have trouble the Harley dealer in Sagamihara on Route 16 have English speaking staff and one of the mechanics speaks very good English so communication will be no problem. Just an idea if everything else fails.

I would tend to agree with johnney C on it being the intake seal. Good luck on that hope you find it soon.
