I've got a 08 1200 custom, and just picked up a 95 1200 with buck horn handle bars.
I want to take my old stock handle bars from the 08 and and put them on the 95. My question is, will the stock chrome riser from the 08 fit on the 95 ?
And do I need to get new grips for a 08 or grips for a 95 ?
It'll probably fit the triple clamp, but I believe the '95 should have rubber (or urethane) bushings in the triple clamp to reduce handlebar vibration. Getting the '08 riser/speedo to install in a rigid fashion will probably take a little creative engineering and some washers.
The bolts that go into the risers go through the bushings. The bushings are in the triple clamp. There is probably a cup on the top and bottom of each bushing, that hides the bushing itself. The top cup has the usual riser against it and the bottom cup would have the bolt head from underneath against it. It's been a while since I took one apart, many beers ago. The mating surface for the risers and bolts may be integrated into the bushings. Start taking it apart and see what you see, or wait for someone that knows for sure to answer. I'm kinda at the top of my knowledge curve on this.
