Default Dumb Question on Handle Bar Risers

Why are the handle bar risers rubber mounted? Doesn't seem like they would absorb any vibration...

I ask because the other day my bars went out of square when one of the riser bolts loosened. Seems if they were bolted directly to the triple tree then that would not happen...

Kind of for the same reason the motor is mounted with rubber. The rubber isolates and dampens some of the vibration. You can stiffen up the bars with polyreuthane bushings. The 08 and later Street Bobs are as you say, bolted directly to the trees by integrated risers.

It helps reduce the harmonic vibe at speed.

Rubber reduces harmonic vibration. Has been used for that purpose for 50 years. Make sure your riser bolts are torqued correctly and that blue Loctite is on the threads. Then they won't come loose. Also, remember to TCLOCS your motorcycle before you ride. http://www.msf-usa.org/index_new.cfm...cycle%20Basics

Another +1 for the poly bushings. I have them on both my FXD and FLHX and have put them on every bike I've had in the last 10 years. Noticable but not a huge difference on the Steet Glide with stock bars. I pulled them off for powder coat and replaced the bushings. Since I work at a dealership it only cost me about 25 bucks and the difference was well worth it. On the Dyna with 16's it made a huge difference! Day after I put them in I went on a 90 mile poker run and they were absolutely perfect.
