Im looking to get a project bike to create a dirt track look.
Most likely will start with a post 03 bike (rubber mt)
Step one is looking to put a 17" spoke wheel out back. Are there models that would swap over? Or new wheels that are under 500 out there?
The only think I can find searching are ultra custom wheels for 1000+ a piece.
I posted a bunch of questions about this topic in the general forums wheels section. Maybe I'll copy that post over to this thread since you actually got some bites!
I bought a regular 40 spoke harley sportster rear wheel with the plan to find a 17 X 3.5-40 spoke rim to go with it... Took me a while, but found one on ebay finally. It came off a triumph scrambler 40 holes, used problem solved, right? My main question is now I just take apart the 16" wheel, sell the spokes and rim of course, and then just buy any old stainless steel spokes that are for a 17 inch rim? Sounds like it shouldn't work, all hubs can't be the same size, right? So, I'm not out of the woods yet.
If anyone can tell me about the spokes, I have a thread in the wheel section.
If you have a wire wheel with the 'wrong' size rim, why not simply have a new rim fitted? Should be cheaper than 500 bucks. You'll also want a 19" or 21" front and the same comment applies. Don't look for complete wheels when all you need are new rims! Any off-road wheel builder should be able to supply and fit, you don't need Harley-specific rims or spokes.
