Default Infotainment Update

Ok, I’m posting this just in case I’m not the only one that had no idea this was possible. Tonight I learned Infotainment updates can be user installed through the USB-C port on the bike. The latest revisions are available in the same online portal that you can see the owners manuals. I downloaded the latest software zip file, extracted it to an SD card then plugged that into my bike and did the update through the settings menu option. Took 5 mins. I was frankly astonished it worked.

I can’t recall how many conversations I’ve had with service guys from different brands over the past few years about why do I have to bring my bike to the dealer just to update the software. It’s just the infotainment part but it’s a good start.

It might be common knowledge but I just thought I’d share in case it is of interest.

I was just reading this in a PanAm thread. I’ll have to try it.

Hey Brvhrt;

Thanks for that info. Did you notice any changes with the update?

Slimx;

I pretty sure the update is uploaded via the bike's USB port. You'd probably download the software to your an SD card connected to your laptop then take that SD card and connect it to the port on your bike then, via options on the TFT display, simply select a link to upload it to the bike. I'm sure Brvhrt will know better. Happy and safe riding!

Sorry - I haven't looked for one but, I checked Harley's site - nothing, even searched for it. I called my dealer and was told they could take care of it there but I asked where I could look it up - they don't know (or won't say). Harley's site is F'n useless. I did a search for the RH1250S and tried 'infotainment software update', 'software update', and 'updates' and it comes up with nothing. Wish I could help. I've place a 'parts request' for it in my local dealer's website. If I get anything, I'll post it. Likewise, if anyone else knows, PLEASE let us know.
Thanks!

https://www.harley-davidson.com/infotainment-support

This site contains all the latest software files for infotainment systems for HD.

You need to download and unzip the relevant file.
Then place that file on a USB stick with a USB-C end to it so that it'll plug into the USB-C connector on the bike. Sportster S has that connector located on left side triangular cover behind headstock.
Ensure that it is the only file on that USB and you don't have a bunch of other random stuff on it.
Then go through the menu on your Instrument Module to access the update option. Probably a good idea if you're not familiar with finding that option to figure it out before so you don't have the bike turned on and draining the battery while hunting for it.

As the actual update process can take a little time,approx 5-7 minutes, ensure your battery is fully charged, and if possible connect a charger directly onto the battery itself as the battery tender lead under the seat will not accept power from your charger/tender whilst bike is turned on to do the update.
Rather obviously, while it's updating do not turn the bike off.
Once the update finishes the TFT display should return to normal.
