The Dark SideFor those members running "Car Tires" on their scoots. This is for their discussion only and not a place for "non dark siders" to mouth off about their negative opinions of this idea!
I've been running car tires for ten years and many in our group also, the two popular ones are Dunlop 195/60/16, same size a stock and won't change speedo, also Bridgestone Turanza 195/60/16, they have are a little taller and couple 32's more tread, lowers revs on highway. Also riding 2up most of the time we've found 40psi to work best but it's all in how you want it to ride and handle.http://darkside.nwff.info/?p=tires
Going to the Darkside, I'll be.. I have about 17,000 on original tires.. Disappointed, I am.. Plan is to run a Yokohama Avid Envigor zp5 (run flat) in the 195/55 16r variety on the rear along with a Pirelle Angel ST 160/60 17r rear tire reverse direction up front. I am going to use Daynbeads (sp ?) in both tires. Other than lowering the bike about 3/4 of an inch (a good thing in my case) are ther any other issues I'm missing, something I should consider doing?
Oh yeah, my bike is a 2013 stock RGU with exception of screaming egale mufflers..
Any comments good or bad (except from the those that ain't tried the darkside and just want to cry foul) would be appreciated.
1) Are you sure the 160 tire will front up front? My Indy should be installing a 150 series Battle Ax BT-45 up front for me this week. I don't remember reading about anyone running a 160 up front. Also I am having mine installed frontwards to ensure that water is pushed to the outside of the tire when riding in the rain.
2) Be aware that your choice of a 55 series tire on the rear will cause your speedo to read an additional 1 or 2 mph higher than normal. No problem for me because I use my ThunderMax to calibrate the speedo to my GPS.
Other than that just take your time getting use the CT.
After considering your sage advice, for which I thank you, I reavaluated my plan. I am now going to go with the G Max AS 03, in the 195/55 r16 varity and Pirelle Angel GT mc tire 150/70 zr 17. That is the only tire pattern I liked in a radial mc tire.. Ilike the idea of radial tires front and rear.. How much RideOn did you use in your tires ?
Following in the wake of my predasessors (sp?), I am.. Thank you
