The Dark SideFor those members running "Car Tires" on their scoots. This is for their discussion only and not a place for "non dark siders" to mouth off about their negative opinions of this idea!
I'm totally disappointed with the factory tires on the 19 road king, just turned 10k and under 3/32" on BOTH tires.
so yes im impressed with the motor and abs, but I don't think I'm that abusive, usually ride 2 up and pull a small utility trailer couple times a year.
so if I darkside the back can I expect 15k ?
What do i do with the front?
can't mix radial and nonradial, are radials prefered?
There are no car tires that will fit the front, May work if you do a wide front end but that will cost you $3,000 or more. If you only got 10,000 out of a rear 180 you have other issues. You shout be getting 20,000 and others as much as 22,000.
If you go car tire in the rear you will be mixing B and R that is how it goes.
Front tire should last a lo longer than the rear.
You should have 16 inch rear. A 195/60R16 will fit prefect and be the same height as the factory 180/65b16 and 3/5ths of an inch wider.. Some run the 205/55r16 but it is not the same height as the factory tire.
Be warned this is a personal choice. It has it's up and down sides. I have done it That does not mean others should. Do your home work. Make an educated choice as with all mods and things outside the box.

What size factory tire and wheel do you have now?
20000 miles out of a rear tire? Wow. I guess I don't talk to the right people and drive like a maniac
I don't personally know anyone who got 20,000 out of a motorcycle rear tire. When I used to run them I would only get 12 to 15K out of them and ended up having them changed out every other winter pre-emptively just so I did have to take the time during riding season.

On the new frame , I have never gotten less than 20,000 on rear. Except with sidecar on but that is a different world.
Dunlop sport 5000 arrived today. 35 psi, I can tell a difference, it seems to roll left to right with the road crown change, corners felt fine. 195/60r16.
fits with a trailer hitch.
