The Dark SideFor those members running "Car Tires" on their scoots. This is for their discussion only and not a place for "non dark siders" to mouth off about their negative opinions of this idea!
After having my CT sitting around for months I finally got it on my '07 RoadKing Custom today. Its a GoodYear Assurance 175/60R/16. A little shorter than stock and wider, it fit perfectly with no clerance issues. Im running about 200 more RPMs at 70mph and had to recal the speedo about 3 mph @ 60. Makes the 6th gear much more usable for me and take offs are easier also. It lowered the rear end a little too which was nice.
Only problem so far is the dreaded wobble, it starts at around 65mph but not all the time. I will work on tire pressure tomorrow to see if that helps (have tried 35 and 40 psi so far with 40 seeming a little better). If that doesnt work I will be checking steering head tightness and then balancing (I am using 3oz of DynaBeads now).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have a 09 RK and I'm about half way into my trip, bout 2k. I've always had the wobble in high speed turns. The CT only accentuated the problem(turns). When I get home I'll work on the front end to find a cure or at least help.
Seen a lotta miles on the highway and the CT feels so much smoother. Really like it so far.
If you find something that helps the wobble post what you did. Good luck.
After going thru many different air pressure changes I was not able to get rid of the intermitent wobble. I didnt have this problem befor I changed the tire so I checked to see if it was running true which it was. I then decided to add another 1/2 oz of dyna beads. That worked, I guess the CT just needed a little more balanceing than the MT.
Glad it worked for U. Mine starts at about 75 going dead straight. Never had that before. I'm working on adjusting tire pressure. The Indy put 55 front and 60+ rear. Rode like a brick. Running 41 front and 40 rear and much better. Guys on the forum say run the rear 32-34. I'll keep lowering it to that pressure and see what happens.
The Indy really and a wobble about putting a CT on it. This guy is OLD school but very good.
I started out running the rear at 32 pulling a trailer with 12" rear shocks and stock front. Ran fine. Fixing the front 1" lower really caused it to handle bad.
Gotta say 75 is usually ok for me. Keeping up with the speedies is where it hurts.
I'll keep adjusting then Dynabeads and see where I'm at.
Thanks

Like the look of UR tire.
I'm going to try the Dunlop Sp 5000. Seems everyone likes it.
I am lucky. I picked up a set of spare wheels off of Craig's list so I can mix and switch to try different combinations.
