i have a question, i just had a 97" big bore kit, and 583 easy start cams installed, still doing the break in on it, but i want to have it dyno tuned, first, im about 200 miles since the upgrades, already changed the oil once, how much longer sould i wait before putting this on the dyno? also, the HD dealer said 3 hours, $297
i guessing they don't run it on the dyno that long, how long do they run it on there, the thought of them running it to redline over and over again scares me!..
never had a bike on a dyno before.
thanks
3 hours actually sounds a little short.. Flash based tuning systems can take up to 5 to 6 hours. Only part of the time spent tuning is at full throttle. Most of the tuning is done at partial throttle. One of the issues is that runs have to be made at different throttle positions then the motor stopped and the ECU reprogrammed then tests run again. The TTS flash programmer has a new system that cuts the testing time drastically but it's mainly for later ECUs that have more memory..
Three hours is short for a proper tune and bwoltz is correct most of the time is spent in the lower RPM's to tune the cruse range of the engine tuning the wide open high kpa/throttle portion of the map is the easiest part of the map to tune so to speak. If your chosen tuner is competent it will take longer then three hours even tuning a stage one bike with a flash tune module takes me longer then three hours.

Drop the bike off and move far out of earshot. Pretend you don't know or care what's happening to it in those evil rooms.
