I am going to do a cam change. Last year I added the V&H air cleaner and an FP3. So I called my local dyno tuner about tuning the bike after the cam hange. He says the FP3 wont allow him to get into all the areas needed to get the best tune for the cam change. Or something along that line. It may not be a direct quote. He recommended changing to the Power Vision. When I bought this bike I swore I was just going to ride the wheels off of it. I wasn't going to put all the money into the motor like I did with my last one. But...My BUTT wants more power. It must be the Tim Taylor in me. I am guessing it wont be long before the jugs come off and I go bigger.
Is the local tuner BSing me? Or am I just needing to find another guy? Guess I hate throwing a couple hundred in the trash. He says the Andrews 48 with PV he can get it to run around 90 HP and 100 torque. Is that reasonable for my 96?
I've upgraded cams in both my bikes, and the FP3 has handled it fine. Both bikes run great with their maps "Edited" for the cams. You should try it first, maybe run Autotune if you think it needs it, and see what you think. You might decide to skip the dyno and new tuner, but that option would still be open.....
I am going through the same thing on an '06 Ultra. Using the old led version of the V&H fuelpak and installed Andrews 21 cams. Three different tunings from V&H, still runs rich and mpg stink. Per customer service that is normal with my build ('88 inch) and no further assistance because of the cams. PV, auto tune kit and a new head pipe are on the way. YMMV with the FP3, give it a try before you spend more coin
I'm online chatting with V&H now. Apparently you can have an FP3 dyno tuned but you just gotta find a Tuner who will work with it. V&H telling me you can manually adjust the VE, AFR, spark, etc.. They have ZERO documentation on how to, best #'s, etc,...which is why I'm researching.
My bike runs good,..but like you...I can't stop F'ing with it.
Running a generic map that is good with your cams is different from getting a dyno tune from a tuner. A canned map is not maximizing the potential of your build. So even though it feels better it's not better. That being said, not a lot of shops tune with FP3. I would pick the tuner that the shop can tune with. This will give you the best results.

I sorta/kinda wish now that I knew this when I bought the FP3. I swore I was just going to ride the hell out of it. Then I was looking at the V&H air cleaner and the FP3 on Amazon. What the heck I thought. Run better and cooler, what's not to like? Well...not enough power. Is what's not to like. Its not the first $300 I've wasted on a bike. Guessing from Hammers post. I will be deep sixing it. After checking out a new M8. I figured cams was a cheaper power fix. At least it will bide me over for a while. Cams and tune <$1500. New M8 ultra $28K.

I'm in the middle of all this as well.
Customer service is working with me so we'll see how it all works out.
I'm running Andrews 48s and it never has run as well as I think it should.
The recent bluetooth issues are slowing my progress.
I'm starting to think this is the WRONG choice for tuners if your doing a cam upgrade.
Mine has been running rich, throwing codes, and I'm getting UNDER 20 MPG with their adjusted for cams map.
Auto tuning their adjusted map has resulted in not one green cell ever. All orange. Seems the adjusted maps are waaaaay off.
If they can't instruct me on how to fix the map thru advanced auto tune or the stage one map with auto tune doesn't fix it, I'll be in the market for a new tuner as well.
Maybe have a look towards the TTS, if you are going to change anything ...the Power Vision is looking more and more like a Stage 1 tuner only the more I try to kick it to give me sensible numbers.
You can't change cam setting on it, and their tech support don't always have the right numbers for the cams when you ask them to change them for you At least it connects to your computer tho
I already resigned the FP3 to the shelf, and I'm seriously thinking about doing the same with the PV and getting a TTS ...all for the same bike !! Hindsight is a wonderful thing

And I thought I had bad mpg! I can smell fuel at cold start from the exhaust and when sitting at a stop on running temp who knows what it is doing @ highway and freeway speed. In my reading, as soon as you install cams, the canned maps are a crap shoot as to whether you are even close and V&H is not helping beyond stage 1. My Led fuel pack is getting ready to collect dust on the shelf too

To be fair..
Chris Neely is helping with getting my map in line with the cams.
Remains to be seen if it'll work. I'd hate to throw 300 down the crapper but it can't continue on in its present state
