Just got back from my trip to Helen. Had a great time and a great ride. I took 41 to 441 as planned however changed up a bit after Athens. Once around Athens on 441 just before Baldwin took Pea Ridge Road to 384 and then 384 to 75 which takes you right into Helen. It's a bit different getting around Athens to what you see on a map but navigation directions worked very well. Followed all bypass routes wherever possible on 441 and had "NO" traffic issues at all. Going up, I stayed in Dublin and then onto Helen the next day, and coming back I stopped in Douglas and home the next day. Broke the ride up in comfortable segments and allowed these old bones to recoup without burn out!!! Will definitely use this route in the future whether going by car or bike. As others previously mentioned, some great riding in and around Helen and North Georgia.
