[QUOTE=PoorBoy;5927791]I'm thinking Memorial Day weekend. Steinhatchee.
Steinhatchee is a good Irish name. I haven't looked on a map yet to see
where it is, but if it is in my GPS. The town is OK with me.
I hope there is a store with Steinhatchee t-shirts for sale.
Steinhatchee is a Gulf coastal community in Taylor County, Florida located at 29°40′16″N 83°23′15″W / 29.67111°N 83.3875°W / 29.67111; -83.3875 (26.671111, -83.387500)[1], 33 miles (53 km) south of the county seat of Perry. The Stein in Steinhatchee is pronounced as if it were spelled Steen, rather than Stine. Steinhatchee means 'Dead Man's River', or 'Dead Man's Bay'. Since the early 1800's, the small village of Steinhatchee played an integral part in the foresting industry, as well as fishing, crabbing, and scalloping. (from wikipedia)
I'd love to do a ride to the panhandle and just might this spring, but for many of the working S. FL folks, that's a pretty far stretch even for a 3 day weekend ride, assuming there's going to be a day for "socializing".
Steinhatchee is about an 8 hour run for the N Cuba gang and sounds more doable if we want to include everyone.
If we only gonna go to Steinsnatchie...why don't we just go to Ceder Key...It was a nice ride and had some places to go while there (bars)...plus we had awesome accommodations at a really good price....just my .02 cents
the reason i suggested the panhandle are is because we have never ridden there, except for the ones that live there.
Steinhatchee sounds like a great place, not against going there, but as jax mentioned would like to hit panama or Pensacola area, the true handle
SP, it sounds to me like the panhandle ride probably should evolve into a separate event for the North & Central Fl folks.
Maybe we can put together a separate ride to Cedar Key, Steinhatchee, or Mt. Dora (as Kimbo suggested) that the whole Crew can do. I agree, the panhandle is just too far for the S. FL group to make on a weekend.
Meeting in Gainsville and riding in would be nice. Cheryl (my wife) might come along If I rent a bigger bike. That is if Kay and Barbara would like to meet her...
Mt. Dora is a plus...Cheryl LOVES Mt. Dora!
I think if we all stayed at the same place it would be nicer...especially since it would be a group thing. That is part of the appeal. However, my wife is a good little christian girl and is opposed to some language.
Cheryl has only been in one group ride of about 20 bikes when I fell in line with one for about a mile and she absolutely loved it!
Anyhoo...when y'all are reDY AND IT'S WARM ENOUGH...i'M ALLERGIC TO COLD WEATHER.
And that person from Ga.....we do 500 mile lunch rides, so com'on down!
