Default sound system upgrade info ?

looking for some better audio on the scoot.
i have researched this to death on the forum and have gotten nowhere fast.
these 10 love the jm, these 10 hate the jm. these guys love hog tunes, these guys say hog tunes suck.

i have done the original jm 7.25 upgrade on the front and will say it is better than stock, but for a few hndred bucks i was expecting a little more.

does anyone here have first hand experience with the new jm rokker speakers and amp or the hog tunes 6 speaker system w amp ?

i don't mind spending a few bucks, but i want it to sound right.
full rokker 6 pc speakers and 500wt amp about 1400.00 i think only the fronts are amplified and the rear is not.
hog tunes about 400 bucks, 6 speakers and amp is about 160 i think ?

anyone in the south have either of these set ups to hear ?

thanks
Dave

I put the Hogtunes speakers in the front of my SG and they are better than stock but not great. Jerry and I where at Destination Daytona last year and got a demo of the Jim's speaker and I would have thought they would have been a big improvement over stock. I am surprised and sorry to hear they are not. Glad you brought this up because I was thinking about getting a set of of the Jim's. Guess I'll hold off and see how your project works out. If you want to sell the Jim's let me know.

will keep you posted Bert.
i saw on some of the posts that if i go with th jm rokker, they have a trade in deal on the originals. i just have to hear a rokker system before throwin down that kind of cash.

i think if i go with just the jm rokker front 4 and 250wt amp it is about 1000.00
i probably don't need the raer to be upgraded.. would love to hear a few set ups first.

trying piecing it together yourself. I used to be in car audio many years ago. You can find really nice aftermarket speakers that will work on the bike along with amps. JBL, rockford, pioneer, kicker, etc. they all make a water resistant speaker. there are just as much of a selection in amps too. If you need any help, just give me a pm.

I have looked at the speakers used by these so called motorcycle speaker companies...(hog tunes Jim's). they all use cheap speakers. If you are going to upgrade your music system, then I suggest you stick with the companies that have perfected the audio in cars.

Take a look at these. They use 6.5" Polk Audio speakers. Really nice speakers.

Call us at the shop tomorrow and we can explain everything about all of the J&M stuff to you. The Rokkers are way better than the regular 7.25"'s. The 500W amp is a 4 channel amp so you can amplify both front and rear. We sell all of their stuff at extremely deep discounts too.

well,
after lots more searching and calling around i find there is no dealer around here that has anything set up that i can hear.
i did wind up ordering the jm rokker kit after talking to one of the guys at dr v twin.
after speaking to about 3 or 4 on line dealers who sell this stuff i think they would tell you whatever you wanted to hear.
the guy at jm told me not to buy all 6 speakers and the bigger amp for what i wanted. he told me the extra lower speakers would be louder and said would sound good, but at hwy speeds would not offer what i think it would.
at 80 plus mph the lower speakers would be lost. seemed to be pretty honest.
he actually has on his bike what i wanted to buy. he said when he fades it at higher speeds he doesn't see a big difference.
i bought front rokkers and rear rokkers with the 250wt amp.
i hope to have these here by saturday. i will keep you guys posted.

Please keep us posted Dave. I have been wrestling with this same thing for some time now, and like you said, vendors just tell you what you want to hear!
