Question Routing Question

Camel Kisser and I are leaving for New Orleans next Tuesday. We had planned on taking 19 to 98 then riding the beach all the way over. But I did not think that spring break will be in full swing. How bad will the traffic be along 98 through Panama City and Pensacola beach? Don't want a bunch of drunkin idiots and bumper to bumper traffic harshing my vacation. Any panhandle crew members have any insight? Don't want to take the slab all the way over but don't want to get run over by any drunken uninsured college kids either!

Looks like you will be right in the thick of it going through that area during that time.

I hope it has settled some when we go through there on the 18-19

Thanks Gator! Thats what I was afraid of, just wondering what the road is like. Wondering if its like the beaches here 35 mph and a cross walk every 20 feet or more like a1a north of daytona where you can move a bit.

Better off taking I-10 but if don't like Interstate, Hwy 90 will take you right there .. used to ride with my dad taking Hwy 90 many years ago ..

Thanks Jay! I saw 90 on the map, maybe we will go that route. Seems like a good compromise!

Make sure you take the Ferry either coming or going. Nice little trip. If cars are all backed up waiting just ride around them. They will find a spot for the bike. http://www.gulf-shores-alabama.net/g...in-island.html

Cool Dave I didn't know about this! Looks life fun! Its about in the perfect place too. We are staying in biloxi the first night. We could take the ferry to the island then take the causeway to Alabama port then wiggle back over to 90 and it takes us right to the hotel! Thank You! Another adventure!

Thanks Jim! We will. Have been looking forward to a good long ride on the new bike. Have been working to much, being the cold and flu season and working in that small room with recirculated air. Once someone gets sick everybody gets it so theres been to much overtime lately, but someones gotta do it

If you want to avoid the Panama City mess, you can take Back Beach Rd. or skip over PC completely by running Hwy 20.

When 98 comes out of the forest from Perry you cross over the St. Mark's river and on the right is a little Biker/Oyster bar Outz's 2. Watch for the 35 mph speed signs, its a well known speed trap.
Continue another 1/2 mile and take SR267 (aka Bloxham Cutoff) the road forks Northwest and will take you to SR20. Take 20 West to 331 which will take you south to Destin. Not the interstate but less traffic and towns than any other road west.

Spring break hasn't sprung here in OBA and Gulf Shores yet but the Snowbirds are heading north.
