So it's hotter here than it is normally Germany (where I used to live) and I have a '09 Ultra and '11 Sporty. What, if anything, do y'all do to keep the engine on the cooler side? I have a PCV with a map that is on the rich side of the line, but man my right leg was collecting some heat today. I tried to adjust the flaps on the fairing to direct the air on to the heads, but not sure if that made things better or worse. I am contemplating oil coolers for both bikes, but I know a lot of people around don't run them.
Hey there,
I have an 09 Ultra also and found the oil cooler did nothing for me. I went to FULL SYNTHETIC OIL IN ALL 3 HOLES AND THAT DID NOT HELP MUCH EITHER. THE BIGGEST HELP WAS CHANGING MY HEAD PIPES TO TRU-DUALS. THAT REMOVED A TON OF HEAT..
I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE SPORTY.
GOOD LUCK
DAVE
I did find that the twig and berries did get a bit on the warm side. I'm good with that cause it keeps the fish count low LOL
I'm thinking of rigging up some sort of fan system to blow on the rear head since the front once get most of the airflow. I know there is a fan out there already, which I cannot remember the name, but has anyone used it down here with any success.
I'm not hunting to lower temps per say, there is a s-ton of posts on that, but more looking for what y'all are doing to dissipate the heat.
@throttlejunkie... that is on my wish list already, glad to hear it help cut down on the heat. Might have to move that up the wish list now I too a running Syb3 in all 3 holes, but someone made mention the other day that AMSoil will help keep the heat down. Which oil you running? Found out just before I left that Syn3 is a blend, not full synthetic.
The crotch cooler is great for keepin your thighs from over heatin' but does nothin to help the bike itself. A full synthetic in all three holes, as TJ suggested, does help however. I've run the Amsoil in all my bikes to date. That is until recently... I've tried and now run the RedLine Syn. Both work about the same to me. I also run the oil cooler. The latest one came stock with a cooler, but adding one does help when rollin' along. In stop and go traffic.. you're just at the mercy of the beatin' sun.

runnin Amzoil. I don't remember the temps, but i used my temperature gun before and after the change and found maybe a 2 degree difference overall.
removing the heat is better than deflecting it, but like everyone is saying the crotch cooler will at least keep it off you twig and berries. LOL
I am thinking I will be getting one for my wifes heritage. I have not done anything to her exhaust yet.
good luck
