I paid $100 new in box for mine, so if it truly has an issue with water SoFla then I guess we will find out, but it was a price I could live with. I'm gonna look into the splash guard when the time comes. This is just a way for me to get my tunes on the bike without paying HD or anyone else what they want for the ipod connection kits that go to the saddle bag and charge while you ride. I have been eyeballing this radio for a long time, couldn't pass on the price.

So how do they sound. I hate my HD radio, but having just dropped 500.00 on the XM I don't want to lise it, even though that sounds the shittiest.

Steve,
The Sony radio sounds really good. Definitely better than the stock radio.

BUT...at 80mph, you can't tell much of a difference. The USB tray was the biggest plus for me, NO MORE CDs!!! My music collection is huge, so now I can finally put it to good use. You could talk to the guys at Hawg-Wired, but I don't think your XM would be affected by the swap. I also like the look of the Sony radio, but there is one other thing I want to mention. I recently saw a thread in the touring section where a guy used the Biketronics kit. I gotta tell you, from the mounting brackets, to the front bezel, to the splash cover, the Hawg-Wired products look waaaaay better.

Look at the pics in this guy's thread.

The two thumbnails in the first post are "with the splashguard" and "without the splashguard". The Biketronics splashguard is fugly, and the textured plastic backing plate around the radio is also fugly. The Hawg-Wired kit uses metal mounting brackets, and the bezel around the radio is aluminum (coated black). Way nicer.

I have a question. Do you loose the auto volume with speeding up and slowing down function of the stock HD system?

Default Auto volume?

I have a question. Do you loose the auto volume with speeding up and slowing down function of the stock HD system when upgrading to an aftermarket head unit?

Nice work Steevo! You definitely have a way with the tech stuff.
Good idea adding the splash cover, there is no such thing as waterproof.
