Ok,
As the saying goes, "We do it right, 'cause we do it twice, third time's a charm". I started my audio project with J&M Rocker 7-1/4 inch speakers. Then added the J&M 250 watt amplifier. I wanted to be done right there, but I was not yet completely satisfied with my sound system. So here is the final piece of hardware, a Sony DSX MS60 marine head unit.
To install a new head unit, you need a "Retro-Radio" mounting kit. Biketronics and Hawg Wired are the dominent suppliers for these kits. I chose the kit from Hawg Wired, I like the full metal radio cradle that they use. The other main component of the kit is the plug-n-play wiring harness that retains the handlebar radio controls. But let's go back to the radio...
This Sony head unit is where all car stereos are headed. THERE IS NO CD PLAYER, and you will never miss it. When you pull down the faceplate, there is a USB tray that holds a thumb drive or Ipod. The new flash drives are so tiny now, that there is almost no need for all the tray space. Pictured here is my 16GB flash drive on the end of the dongle. Good enough for over 3000 songs.
Nice, looks good to me. I had considered one of those head units when I had the old Tourglide. Love the tray for the usb drive. Can you control the usb drive with the handle bars? As far as switching songs and such?

Yes, all the controls work just like they do with the Harmon Kardon radio.
And one of the other nice things about the Sony is having 7 preset equalizer curves, along with your own custom EQ settings. But I believe the biggest weakness of the stock HK radio is, it has no RCA pre-outs. So when you hook up an amp, you must use the speaker leads as the source. Not a very clean source.
Toys toys toys. Nice setup. Does that head unit allow you to change led lighting colors?
No, but I like the blue lighting. There are plenty of high quality head units to choose from, but both Biketronics and Hawg Wired make it easy to choose a Sony radio. They sell a univeral harness that can be used on any radio, but they are not exactly plug-n-play. The only custom harness they sell is for the Sony radios.
Nice! I just scored one of these for one hell of a price on another forum, can't wait to get mine in. I didn't know there was a splash cover will look into that.

Gabe,
I'm sure someone makes a splashguard for your bike. But the one that Hawg Wired sells will only work on a batwing fairing.
