I wear a Shoei full face (modular helmets are noisy, too many seams). I added a Sena Bluetooth unit for music, talking gps, and phone calls.

I run the Bell full face helmet and really like it. I have added the Sena 20S Bluetooth headset unit for intercom, music and phone calls. This setup is what I use for all riding.

I wear a HJC (I-90) modular simply because it fits good.

I wear a Shoei RF-1200 full face, and will most likely replace it with a Shoei RF-1400 in a few years. I can’t see riding in an open face helmet for anything other than short local rides. I went with this helmet because it’s a solid one piece shell without the extra moving parts of a modular helmet, it’s light, it’s hand made in Japan, it has both the D.O.T. and Snell testing, and most of all it fits me really well. When I bought it I thought that I would probably get an Arai helmet, but for my head the Shoei was a better fit. I think that fit is one of the most important things with a helmet. It needs to be really snug all around, but comfortable with no hot spots. When you try it on new it should be really snug, almost like it’s too small. You should have to pull it down over your head with some effort, and it should be placing a lot of pressure on your cheeks. If a new helmet slides over your head easily and it is really comfy it is probably too big. The helmet lining and cheek pads will compress over time and the last thing you want is a helmet that is too big once it’s broken in. A good fitting helmet will be quieter and will feel stable when you’re in the wind at 90 mph.
Go to a shop or a store like Cycle Gear that has a variety of helmets that you can try and compare. I would never buy a helmet on-line without trying it on for fit, like buying a pair of boots.
