Default Harley Parts Scams..

Be careful buying Harley products on Facebook Marketplace. There are a number of vendors with names like "Harley Davidson spare parts". They won't use a Escrow service. They will say they're a non dealer and then a dealer. They won't tell you what their company name is. I asked them for a picture next to the seat they were selling and they declined. Their prices are very good to attract potential sales - such as $250 for a Saddleman seat. Their pictures are used in many different Marketplace sites and are often from other web sites. Don't be fooled.

For example these are from the Koating Factory.

Exclamation Counterfeit products

Isn't that why some call it Fakebook?

Anyone can sell on their Marketplace. There's alot of Mom and Pop garage sale type of sales that are going on and are legit. There's also alot of small business Owners advertised there products and services on there. Everything from new high quality leather Heavy-Duty belts to Sam the Concrete man who wants to pour you a new backyard patio, or his Brother who wants to install your new roof.

With AI becoming used more, and the already existing video editing apps out there, it is easy for some to create a very professional looking business model online. I think Facebook (Meta) even provides the ability to create ads using their software, to their paying Facebook members. Some of these sellers advertise new name-brand products at discounted prices. Those are the ones who are trying to scam you by selling counterfeit products, open package returned items, close-out items bought at auction, and such as that.

Manufacturers who do not sell directly to the public use a distribution model to sell their products through companies such as Drag Specialties, V-Twin, Parts Giant, etc. The cheapest legit prices on new products I believe, will be found on Amazon or Ebay. But, still you have to be careful who you're buying from, where the product ships from, their return policy, number of days available to return, etc.
Not just on Fakebook Marketplace, there's several online companies selling counterfeit goods and cheap Chinese products out there. TEMU is one example.

I have bought and sold a lot of stuff on Marketplace, but I only deal in cash and only face to face transactions. Out of dozens of transactions I've only had two that went sideways, one guy ripped me off on a go cart deal, but it was literally $20 or $25, so I didn't really get too worked up about it.
I had another guy try to intimidate me into lowering my asking price on a perfectly good seat I was selling. The look on his face when I laughed at him was priceless.

I've bought and sold cars, motorcycles, and parts using Craigslist and eBay. Three months ago I drove a 300 mile round trip to buy Sasha, an old family red nose American Pit Bull Terrier. It was a perfect transaction and she is a wonderful dog. There's a lot a of flakes and frauds selling dogs online and it took me two months of looking everyday to find a legitimate listing for a dog. Same goes for other transactions. You have to be careful out there.

I've never been hosed on Marketplace and I'm strictly cash also but what gripes me are all the people who respond with "Is this still available?" 30 seconds after the ad appears and my ad says I won't acknowledge it. And don't get me started about the ones that say they want to buy but never show up.

Yep, those are the flakes that ruin it for me too. The ones who ask "is it available" then dont respond if I tell them yes it is really suck.
