Default self defense

How and what do you mount to the bike for self-defense? Holster? Tire thumper? Get back whip? Knife?

IMHO... based on experiences and observations from a 31 year LEO career, no admin, all operator level.

If you should decide you need something for self defense, whatever you choose;

Conceal it, don't advertise it...

Be proficient in it's use...

Know the legal consequences of its use...

Don't reveal it, until you realize you need to use it...

All self defense situations are not static, they are constantly changing. Only respond when absolutely necessary.

In addition to all of the above, avoiding a confrontation is always the most effective self defense technique. There is no place for ego and/or machismo in a self defense situation.

Be safe....

Mounting anything to the bike for self defense will not be effective when you actually need it. If you feel the need to carry a weapon for self defense, conceal carry on your person. Practice using it while on the bike.

In over 55 years of riding, and 71 years of living, I have never been in the situation when I needed a weapon, I have no need to live in fear of attack.

A weapon just takes up the space you could use to carry something you might actually need, like tools etc.

I'm going to agree with Dan on this one. We stopped at a place a few years back and some of the people in our group were trying to figure how to lock their helmets to their bikes, or carry them into the bar with them or whatever. My thoughts were, how about if some of us are worried about this area we're in, let's we scoot to someplace else? We did, no need to lock up helmets, or conceal and carry or whatever...Every time I see one of those get back whips, I chuckle. I don't mean to offend anyone, but they are funny/ridiculous to me.
