I recently installed a front/rear "dash cam" on my 07 Heritage. Last Thursday, I went for my first ride of the year. When I got home, I noticed a dent on the top of the front fender! Turns out the placement of the front camera wasn't high enough for fork travel. Honestly, I didn't realize the fork had that much travel during normal riding conditions.
Fortunately, the camera still works and has since been relocated, and the fender will have to wait until the end of riding season to be repaired. New camera location. It was mounted below the cross bar.
I've seen guys strap tool bags on the forks like that and end up getting a nice crease in the fender. Those forks bounce up and down a good bit more than you'd think.
Fortunately, my father in law's experienced in auto body. The plan will be to work out the dent, body filler and paint. It'll be a good experience for me to learn.
