Default highway bar hit front frender.......

has this ever happened to anybody else? it looks like I blew a fork seal , and I am trying to use that as a reason for the forks to compress that far but im worried that the after market highway bar is going to do it again, it put a pretty big dent all the way across the back of the front fender.

it was only after I noticed the dent that I noticed the oil from the fork seal all over the side of the bike. and I don't remember ever hitting any bumps that seemed super hard. I don't even know when it happened during my ride.. this is making me nervous .

last night I changed the fork seals, no nicks on the tubes, but the seals were in upside down, filled them with fluid, did it by level witch was a little more than 10.8 oz. left the fluid 4.8 in. down from the top .. any sugestions?

Never heard of it happening unless something was bent. Have you had your scoot hauled at any time? Could've had the front tied down too tight, that will pop a seal. BTW, pics would be cool.

A friend of mine went over some railroad tracks that were less than smooth to fast and dented his front fender on a Road King...... it does happen. My wife has the same kind of dent on her Superglide....... same damn tracks.

Ive heard of the front brake "block" on the bottom of the triple tree hitting the fender, but not the highway bar. I was worried about that when I lowered my front end, so I lowered the front fender to keep it from happening.....AND I like the looks

well im glad to know that im not the only one it has happened too... I may look into lowering the fender, though im planning on a 21 front wheel, will that still work? ill just have to be a little more careful I guess...

you gotta consider that if the fender hits anything on the chassis of the bike- it can cause a loss of control...what if you were on a curve?

I think that was a warning shot, fix what you have to to make sure you don't go down- i don't mean just the seal, make sure that fully bottoms, lock to lock, the fender can't hit or hang up on anything.

my evo bagger fender had a crease from the lower triple tree brace- BIIIG pothole.

im thinking that with the loss of oil in the front fork, it made it a lot easier for them to compress....or I hope so anyways.... but im sure it will always be on my mind now...

Were the seals pushed up really tight to the retaining snap ring, as if there was a huge amount of pressure that caused them to unseat and slide up that 1/8" or so into the snap ring? The snap rings were there, right? Just wondering since the seals were upside down maybe something else was done incorrectly. Or was it leaking through the center of the seal where the tube wore it out?

Also about the 21" wheel- if you lower the fender it won't fit. Look at the picture of my bike below and it gives you an idea of how close it will be using the stock location.

Personally I would like to see the aftermarket highway bars and how they mount. Having anything hanging under the triple tree is asking for it on a hard bump, even when the forks are working correctly and haven't been lowered.

Stock bikes with fender dings from the fairing skirt are not uncommon.
