How long since you last checked it?

Who did the last service?

Any recent motor work?

Any blue smoke?

I agree with ranger. my chopper used to do that. I fire it up and give it a minute and it would go back to the tank.

It 'wet sumped' itself. The oil seeped by the check ball, and it, like Ranger said, ended up in your crankcase.
DO NOT be alarmed, if when you start it, it pukes oil out of your breather.
BUT if it ALL drained down, EVEN over the winter, best lap that seat and put a new ball check in. NOTE: it will NOT hurt anything IF you don't. But your oil will do it again, when it sits for peroids, til you fix the check ball and seat. IF you ride a lot in the summer, in all honesty, I wouldn't worry 'bout it til next winter's maintenance. JMFUO, tho.
Your results may vary, some assembly required, batteries not included.

Sounds like it's actually the check ball, and it's located in the oil filter mount.
The oil filter mount houses the oil filter, check ball and spring, and oil pressure
switch. If you remove the oil filter adapter, (the part you screw the oil filter on), you can access the check ball and spring.
