My buddy and his wife want me and my wife to ride to Graceland from Calgary ,Alberta, Canada with them. I'm mulling it over.
Is it worth crossing the continent for? I know there's a lot to see on the way there but I don't like Elvis that much to want to cross most of the continent to see a grave.
Yeah, it's worth it. There's ton's of stuff to do in the area too. Do you like music? Blues joints are everywhere. You also have the Great Mississippi River, and FOOD!!
You could always swing by my place and ask the King himself!!
NO. It is a money sucking tourist trap. Now that i got that out, Memphis has some of the best barbecue joints in the world, blues clubs and about 30 minutes to Tunica, Mississippi where you can gamble to your hearts content. The ride there from anywhere in Canada would have great scenery. If your spouses are Elvis fans, Graceland may just get you laid!
I live in Memphis and there are alot of things I would drive half a continent for but Graceland is not one of them...
Dont get me wrong, it is interesting and nice. Memphis has great blue on Beal Street and the BarBque is the best in the world so it would still be a nice trip.
Email me if you decide to do it and need any suggestions.
I've made that ride twice, but it's only about 600 miles one way for me. There is a lot to see at Graceland, in Memphis, and a lot more to see in Tennessee. I would love to do it all over again.
As everyone has said, great food, and great blues, but remember, it is not about the destination, its all about the journey. There has got to be a ton of great scenery between Calgary and Memphis.
After we do the black hills in SD we'll head east then south through Omaha, Kansas City, St Louis, THEN down to Memphis. My wife wanted to see graceland, so we'll see it. Then we'll carry on hit Nashville, which is less than a day, then we're only a short ride to the tail of the dragon. That will be our furthest point away.
Comming home we'll head north through Indianapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, then pretty much head west back to Calgary, three 8 hour days home from there.
That was my plan. Which is backing off from the bigger loop to key west, up to NYC, Cape cod and back through Quebec and across canada. We'd need a month and a half for that one.

Graceland was interesting , but i thought Sun studio and lunch at a blues joint were more fun . also there's a wrought iron museum there somewhere (we found it accidentally) that had some cool stuff
after memphis you can head north to nashville , or south to mississippi , louisiana and new orleans . NO is definitely worth a visit , but might make the trip longer than you wanted
