I have only been a Harley owner for about 3 months now, but I have been riding Wings since '84. I'm not real fond of the look of the newer GWs, (referring to any built in the last 10 years or so)...I think they look too much like sport bikes on steroids (just my opinion) and the price tag on the new ones I have seen on show room floors has almost made me choke.

It doesn't matter to me what someone rides, though. My standard has always been "What you ride is not nearly as important as how you handle the ride you have".

As for Goldwingers, I have found most to be very friendly people who enjoy the long distance rides the most. I'm guessing that most choose the bike because of it's comfort and reliability, two things that are important when you are 1000 miles from home and only a couple of days into a week long trip.

As for Harley riders, I have found most to be very friendly people who enjoy riding just for the sake of riding.

I still own a Goldwing (a 1985 Limited) that runs and handles great. I have taken great care of it and it still looks like it is brand new... well, not exactly brand new, but it certainly doesn't look like it's been abused or neglected. I bought a Harley because...well... I just always wanted a Harley, but hadn't looked at them seriously until recently, mostly because I always thought they were too expensive.

Anyway, I have my Harley and I love riding it and I enjoy the comraderie I have found with other Harley riders, but I still like riding the GW occasionally. I think I would be more inclined to ride the Wing if I was planning on being in the saddle for more than 500 miles in a given day, but on any given weekend or evening ride, my EG Ultra is much more fun!

Ok.....done with my rant....carry on, all!

Wings are the most reliable touring bikes out there. Even heard Harley mechanics and sales people say that. That said, I still like my HD and it is very reliable.
I don't like look of the new GW. I like the mid 80's style. The GW is good on a long haul but even at that I can pull a 700 mile plus day on my Ultra as easily as I can on a GW and probably a bit better as the seating on the new GW doesn't quite fit me.
I like the classic HD look better and I like the HD sound. I wouldn't give up my Ultra for a new GW plus cash in a trade but then, my Ultra and I have been through a lot.
I rode a wing back in the 80's. Great bike. Been in temps below 20 F, flurries and rain with it. Commuted for 7 months on it. Never had a single problem from 82 till I sold it to my brother in law in 89. After that he trashed it pretty good.
I get GW riders wave to me all the time. I wave back. I get more HD riders that ignore me. Go figure. Doesn't bother me tho. I just ride on.
As to riding in the rain. Been there done that too many times. If I'm just going to ride around with no place to go and they are calling for rain? Call me a ***** if you want but I'm staying home or taking the cage. If I'm on a trip or setting out on a trip then it's a different story and I'll go but I won't be happy about it. Mostly because of the other traffic but I do so hate riding in the rain. Funny how I stayed drier on my Ultra than I did on my 82 wing.
Personally I say ride what makes you happy. I don't look down on people for their choices in bikes and I avoid riding with those that do.

Stop wasting your time thinking about those Wing riders.Your not going to have any affect on what they ride or how they do it.Being in the wind is what it is all about.

To each their own. I like Brit bikes. I sure hope that's acceptable on this trendy forum. Like I seriously give a f*ck.

One of the good things about capitalism:
"don't like the goldwing, don't buy the golwing."

Problem solved.

I'd love to hear from just ONE PERSON that has a Goldwing tat on his arm. JUST ONE!

A Harley is like a Vette--made to get you there & enjoy the pride of ownership & the experience
A Goldwing is like an Accord--made to get you there comfortably. Nothing more.
