Like most I agree if it's warm out chaps are really stupid. Walking around in them off the bike is even worse. If it's in the 40's or below I love mine. Keeps the chill down on my legs which makes my rides more enjoyable. When I get where i'm going they get rolled up and left on the bike. I see nothing wrong with them under those circumstances. Just my opinion. and I really have no clue on the gay bar thing. I try not to ride around where they are.
Biggest advantage is they come off in seconds so you can hang out in the bar in jeans. Go anywhere on your bike, zip off the chaps & hang out for hours without sweating to death. Now whats more gay to you, chaps on a bike or a man drinking beer in leather pants
I agree. I wear chaps on colder days riding my RK to work or elsewhere. Then put the chaps in the RK bag until ready to ride again. Easy on, easy off. Essential gear for me. Mine are HD.
Until I find something that works as good as a quality set of chaps like Fox Creek, or Kelly's Leathers, I will continue to wear mine. I've tried other products, but leather works and feels the best at keeping me warm. Sure are lots of non riding guys in here who don't have it in them to ride two or three hundred miles on a cool fall evening, or roll five or six hours threw the mountains when spring breaks. Keep talking about how chaps are "wrong". Us chap wearing riders are always looking to buy your super low mileage, catalog chromed bikes for peanuts. But don't worry because when we get out hands on your like new bikes, we will ride them till the pistons crack...all the time in our silly chaps.

Good explaination. Got a couple of friends that won't get caught dead in chaps but as you described, they won't go down the road but a few miles when it's cool out. They only put a couple thousand miles a year on their rides.
In my neck of the woods, the riding season is too short the way it is! I wear chaps on cooll mornings and leather over-pants on cold mornings. I take them off and stash in the bags when I get someplace. What's wierd to me is the dudes that wear chaps into a bar when its 70 degrees out. They're not a uniform but a functional tool.
I think the further South you go, the more gay chaps are percieved. The further North you go, the more functional they are. I will say that the chaps in the youtube vidio certainly were NOT assless and were NOT gay!!!
To each his own. I don't wear chaps but ride year round; mostly to and from work, unfortunately. I wear these lined Carhartt overpants from fall until spring. They are comfortable, fit over your regular pants and have the appearance of a pair of jeans. These things are durable, warm and keep the wind out. What more could you ask for?

Lol! This is the only place I've ever been where bikers make fun of what other bikers (or enthusiasts) wear. And yep, I wear chaps when it's chilly. But no doo-rag! To each his own.
