I don't try to make fashion statements. Just watch this rube. According to the youtube page he had his chaps come loose and foul the rear wheel dragging him down.
I'm not believing that. It looks to me like he was way to hard on his rear brake. Nasty crash just the same. Dude looked like he got some serious injuries. At that speed chaps would have simply shredded if they got in there.

+1 Agreed....If they had been fouled, tangled, wrapped in the rear wheel he would have stayed with the bike. No choice when you are tied together. But he did leave the bike once down.
Looks to me he was wanting to move to the right and did not see the SUV in his blind spot, locked rear brake and lost it. Just a guess.....
After fighting the chaps thing for the entire time ive been riding, i think im going to buy some. the fact that they keep the wind and rain off and they are easily removable when you get where your going is a huge plus.
as far as the crotch/*** warmth comment...i straddle an air cooled engine - i've NEVER had an issue with warmth, it's always been warm
They're warmer, they're waterproof, they provide real protection to the three main strike points of the ***, hips and knees (+ they have armor) and they don't look stupid. You can even put them on just as easily as chaps (over your boots) in a about a minute (at least the ones with leg zippers up the side). You can even wear them over shorts in the summer, open the leg vents and be cooler than jeans.

So, you infer that chaps look stupid, and these don't. All up to the beholder. I can't see me wearing a pair of these for any reason. But, I'm not gonna say they look stupid. Just not for me.
This stuffs funny. I liked the village people part. I'm going to be staying away from construction workers and cops, they might be gay too. I do have to say that I've been ridding since the 60's and chaps were around then.
