Here's why I paid for a membership here:
My wife hates the idea that I want/will soon own a(nother) Harley, so I can't talk with her about the deals I'm spotting, or whether the black one with V&H exhaust is better than the white one with SEIIs.
I've only lived in this town for 2 years, and I've only owned a Harley for one year, so my network of knowledgeable "old guys" is very small. Nonexistent.
My indy will only answer so many questions before he starts getting upset. Actually, I've never seen him upset. But I try to limit my questions to the ones that don't make me look COMPLETELY stupid.
I'm not a 1%er, and don't think the life is for me, so I'm not gonna go hang at the local Iron Cross watering hole and ask them for advice.
I'm not an idiot, nor a pirate, and the HOG members I've seen here locally are not the kind of people I'd ask for the time, much less anything about a bike.
I can stop by here and listen to other people ask stupid questions. And I can ask the occasional question myself.
Perfect example: Before I bought the FXD, I had no idea that the cam tensioners in the 88TCs were a potential problem. Asking the simple question, "Should I buy a 99 FXD?" opened the door so someone could provide information that helped me make a decision.
Not everyone has a biker dad, or biker friends. This is where I come to try and avoid the stupid mistakes. Not ALWAYS successful, but sometimes it helps.
Quite a bit of difference between that and "what color should I paint my bike?" "does this seat look good on my bike?" "should I put these license plate bolts on my bike?" "I'm thinking of getting a purple bike does that look gay?" "is this jacket gay?" "what looks better, throwovers or t-bags?" and so on.
Why pay for a membership when a good pop up blocker gives you the same right's , who gets how many pop ups is the only difference between paid & free in here unless it's all about the cute patch ? Inquiring minds and all that .........
For me it's worth the cost of dinner with my wife to help pay for the servers, access costs, etc. I could get the same for free, but I'm OK with paying for it.
Paid membership also gets you more storage in the PM box. yippee.

It's all good man believe me this place gets it's pound of flesh without the membership deal but hey if it's what your about so be it . I'm always curious about the why's on things like this from someones personal perspective , bit of a student of human nature and it helps build the knowledge base , more views the better .
