Helped a rider today . He was out of gas and stranded on the side of a major state highway . His road side assistance was on the way but he didn't have his gas cap key ( don't ask me why , don't know , didn't ask) . He needed my key to unlock his gas cap before his help arrived . Problem solved in two minutes. We talked a little and it turns out he was a good guy . He thanked me and told me he would "play it forward " and I believe he will . Goes to show that you don't have to be an experienced mechanic with vast knowledge in order to help a stranded biker , sometimes all you need is a gas cap key and a wiliness to pull over.
Ive done it b4 (this was when I was still riding sport bikes)....
I had to work on a Saturday, on my way home I saw a rider on the side of the road, he was having electrical problems w/ his R1, so we talked for a few minutes and offered to put his bike in my trucks bed and take him to a bike shop about 10 miles away. We left the bike there and I even gave him a ride home!
A few months later I was riding on my GSXR, ran outta gas on a major highway, a rider on a sport bike stopped, told him I was outta gas and had less than $5 on me.......he said no prob, Ill be right back!!! He got off on the next exit, went to a gas station bought a lil gas container and brought to me with gas!!
Forgot my keys at the office once and road the bike 20 miles ( halfway home,) to the gas station to fill up. That's when I realized where my keys were. There was a lock smith van in the parking lot and every barrel key he had would not open that door.
My wife ended up driving 20 miles south to meet me with the spare key.

So I won't criticize the guy you helped!
That's bullsh^t. The Gas door on a Harley has no tumblers in it. Any barrel key will open it.

Well OK then!
Next time you see a soda / candy vendor guy with a big ring of keys nearby, see if any of his keys fit your fuel door. They wouldn't even go in, (different diameter.) And unfortunately, that's the only barrel keys locksmith guy had.
