Great story. I try and always wave. When I was young and growing up I did not ride on motorcycles, but when driving in the country my dad would always wave at cars we would pass. He would almost always stop and help stranded motorist.
I always wave. Funny thing, after years of riding cruisers, all metrics, and usually getting the reciprocal wave, I have been riding a Kawasaki Concours for the last 2.5 years and suddenly I was not worthy of a wave. Thought it was funny. I am the same person and still a rider. Well, now I'm on a Harley so no worries about that.
Hardly any bike riders will wave at me when I am on my Suzuki DRZ400, but most of them will wave when I m on my FXDB.
Strangely enough it is mostly older guys on touring Harley's that always wave regardless of which bike I am on. It is usually the younger harley riders that will not wave at all.
Some won't wave if I am wearing a helmet, either bike.
I always wave.
GeezrGlidr......yep.......I just misunderstood your post. I'm a friendly person too, but have to say, I could do without the wave also. However, I always wave back if able, but almost never initiate it. And, I too, will stop and offer assistance to any biker that's broken down. I think it may be the younger riders who read too much into this kind of stuff.
When I had my 09 Classic, I got yelled at by a crotch rocketeer about being too good to wave at him because I was on a Harley. It wasn't him --- I don't wave to anybody. Here's a pic of how I fixed the problem. Went to my cousin in retail, she let me rob the mannequin graveyard at the store, got a left arm, put an old fingerless glove on it, and voila, I'm now the friendliest guy on the road. I waved to EVERYBODY!
I Always appreciated a wave back, but figure those that don't return a kind gesture have a bug in their azz I want nothing to do with.
Glock - you can't assume why people didn't wave. Plenty of times other bikers have waved at me and - I either didn't see until it's too late, or they're on the other side of a divided highway, or I need my hands and concentration to keep from getting killed by some jerk cage, or my mind was just somewhere else, like when I lost my father. Can't be offended or the wave doesn't really mean anything.

Non wavers are people who aren't getting it, they are the kind that judges someone on having a ricer or a chopper. The kind that thinks that there is only one correct bike. The kind of guy that you meet getting their license when they are 50 years old wearing a HD vest and telling you how there is only one brand of motorcycle ... yeah, the kind of biker that you don't want to hang out with.
lol I'm 21 I get plenty and I dislike choppers almost as much as I love some chicken fried rice. I don't wave to people I don't know for that reason, I don't know them, and I don't care to. Not to mention all the 80 year old farts playing biker in sun city/hillsborough around here need to keep both hands on the bars.
Sometimes it's just so repetitive I find it to be annoying. I'm a nice guy and will help anyone I see stranded along the road car or bike. I can also fit into any crowd and have a good time.
I'm getting a mannequins left arm. Maybe 10 years from now there be threads about mannequin arm yes or no?
