When it's 90+* out and you're gonna be standing around in the sun for quite a while, what do you guys wear as an alternative to the traditional black leather jacket or vest? I got a black textile vest and put the patches on it before actually wearing it and learned real fast how hot it is in 80* weather. it weighs half what a leather vest does but I was cookin'. So how do you handle the heat? What kinda dress and hydration works best in summer when you're doing this?
I sometimes use a cooling neck gator I got from WalMart. Also you can put a wet rag under your cap, anything that will evaporate water will cool you.
They also make cooling vests that work very well.
I frequently stand flag lines and ride escort missions while wearing a plain vest, and long sleeved plain T shirt.
My feeling is I’m there to render honors to the fallen, I don’t need to advertise where I’ve been and what I’ve done.
My bike during escorts shows I ride with PGR.
ETA: I leave the house with two frozen water bottles and one unfrozen in an insulated lunch bag with freezer pacs to keep things cold.
I take one frozen one out and leave it in the tour pack when I arrive at the site.
The other frozen one comes out when I leave.
Works for me, YMMV
