Default Saddlebag Hinge Screw Size/Spec Needed

Hi folks,

Three of the five tiny hinge screws were gone from my right saddlebag hinge. Since a dealer is an hour away, I'm hoping to find something at a hardware store that will be an exact fit until I can get to a dealer to get the replacement pack.

Does anyone know the specification and size of these little screws? I'm going take one with me to the store, but the threads look really fine, and I'd rather not risk buying the wrong spec threading.

Thank you,
'fooz

Try pop rivets until you get what you need??? Or take out one that is still there and replace everything from a hardware store. Don't forget loctiti when you put it back together pernanently.

They are a 6-32 machine screw, with a round head. Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, etc should have them.

The stock ones are about 1/4" long. You can alternatively buy 1/2" long screws, and cut them off with a pair of crimping tools.

This tool is very effective for cutting these tiny little screws - simply thread into the appropriate hole, cut, and remove the screw back out. The threads will be cleaned up and work like a charm.

What screws are these? My latches are very "sloppy" in fact this past weekend the wife pounded me on the head while underway saying the left saddlebag popped open.

Thanks Redbeard719! That's what I needed. I got a small handful of them, and snipped them off (didn't have that tool, but used a pair of snips) and cleaned up the threads with a nut in a vise.

Tucker99, these are the 5 really small diameter and short length screws that hold the hinge/latch onto the saddlebag. Three of my five on the right side were gone, but I found one of them stuck in the latch. I saw the threads had plenty of red loctite on them, but the loctite was applied up high, close to the shoulder of the head. So no loctite was even in the area where it could do some good. It's worth looking to see if all of your screws are in place, but I don't believe these are causing your problem about the lid opening.

Maybe this video might address your situation?

My bike went to the dealership and when I got it back I went to put a new seat on it. On the clutch side I took out the screw that holds the strap over the seat but in order to do it I had open the lid on the side hard bag and when I did the lid was not connected to the hinge. I called H-D and I got the size of the screws. The screw size is #6 x 32 x 1/4. But I bought #6 x 32 x 3/8. If you would see just how small the original screws are you would say they are not long enough. When I was replacing them I put a drop Loc-tite red on each one. Hope this helps and have fun putting in the screws.

is it correct the 6-32x3/8 fit latches with no cutting?
