If you put it in autotune it will stay there even if you turn the bike on and off. Your phone app doesn't have to be on once you set the unit for autotune. It is only a display to show the progress at that point. If you turn the app on periodically the display will show you the progress. If you don't put some miles on with different riding styles though your autotune wont learn quickly or completely. RIDE THE DAMN THING MAN!!!
BTW V&H finally got back to me with the base map they recommend..I flashed it to the ECM last night after I got home from work and so it looks like I will be doing some autotuning myself this weekend..
Well, I ran the stock decatted header and the CFR slip-ons. I was told to run the power dual and HO slip-on map. Bike ran GREAT! It had some pop here and there but didn't give me any issue in the rpm range. Sitting and revving from idle, the bike felt kinda bleh but we rode it 2-up all day and she was fun. Strong off idle pull and nothing funny. Did some mid rpm pulls and pulled cleanly. Very good manors.
Not being one to leave well enough alone, I switched pipes. oh boy.
I put on the rinehart extreme w/4". I also put in the 2.5 baffle.
Started bike, felt very strong at idle when cracking the throttle. Nice.
That was about it. Bike had a strong roll-on at 2k but once the bike got good and warm it started to show some weakness. It felt flat above 3k. Running to 5k was uneventful and felt like 3500rpm. Pull strongly at 2k and then just flat. Not missing or funny just signed off sort of.
Bike seemed touchy at partial throttle.
At idle, it always idled smoothly, no matter what traffic. Blipping the throttle while idling hot was that oh so familiar stumble. Not really a stumble but it was very close. It just felt weak. Kinda that 1500rpm dull spot.
All in all, I think the decatted stock header/CFR actually ran much better with that power dual/ HO slip-on tune.
