Default Pre-repair

I've got an 09 FLHP Road King Police coming to me shortly. 37k miles. Given that it's a used police bike I know it's been well maintained but at the same time been ridden.

Given what has been learned since the 09's came out, What are some things to change/upgrade/check thoroughly to make sure my new bike is super reliable.

Any known weaknesses that should be addressed?
Any upgrades/recalls I should double check got done?

etc.

I'm not really looking to boost performance for the time being. I want to start with something that is super rock solid and then go from there.

recall on the tank mounts and rear brake switch.

vin search on HD website or at dealer will tell you if these have been done.

the original D407F front tire has a service bulletin- but that won;t apply.

as for it's former life, some PD bikes are thrashed to death, some are pampered.

inspect the floor boards, if scraped up, that'll tell you lots- visible rust, scratches and dings.
smell the primary for burning- slipping clutch for parade/ display duty
gouged up brake rotors...

some PD's do their own work, some use dealers only for all service ( liability reasons).

if dealer, you may be able ( or your dealer) to get service records

my 88 ex-chp FXR is awesome. we've been together since 1990.

I got her cheap at auction because she had a simple ( for me) electrical problem.
all teh service records were in teh saddlebag

some wheel bearing problems as well. with all cop bikes look at the wiring, sometimes it gets hacked when they remove all the cop stuff.

all good advice. I was also thinking about switching to the SE compensator.

i'd leave that until you have a problem.

while complaints abound- there is a silent majority running around with the stock compensator

don't fix it....if it ain't broken

SE compensator is very much advised IMHO. That's the only problem I've had with my 09 ultra other than a stator after 91k miles. The upgrades as far as recalls on tank mounts and front tire have surely been taken care of by now. You can verify recall upgrades by vin # at your local dealer.
