Biggest problem that my wife and I found is that when using the speakers on the bike for music, the VOX setting had to be turned up so high to eliminate the music from activating the VOX that it made it difficult to have a conversation.

Our solution is that when using the intercom, music and intercom are both routed through the helmet speakers. This allows the VOX to be turned down until it is just over the wind noise level--anything louder like talking normally will then activate it and we can have a normal conversation. Speakers on the bike are only used when I'm on the bike by myself.

I have noticed since I added the true duals and louder pipes that the VOX is way more sensitive to the ambient noises(it picks up the exhaust noise) and as I throttle up through the gears it will cut in even if I have the VOX set less sensitive. It is hard to get it just right and I guess I forgot about the PTT being an option.
One other thing I am not sure what year bike the op has but I was having some CB issues and I use mine alot because I am a road capt. for our HOG chapter, one of my partners said to take the bike to the dealer and have them flash the Boom Box on my 14 limited which I did and that helped, so make sure you have the latest flash if you have a 14-15 bike. I think it is 18-2-2

I have been having the same problems. I don't seem to be able to find a VOX setting that will work. I will have to try some different foam covers to see if that helps. I don't use the PTT butting as we are usually riding with others in our HOG. We have modular helmets which work better because the mikes are shielded better but for most of the year here it is too hot to use them.

VOX on a Harley usually isn't the best fit, unless you have stock or quiet pipes. Mines turned up pretty high so we just use the PTT. If one of us coughs or sneezes, it will break the VOX
