Default Went down yesterday...grrr

Well it is official I finally dropped my Road Glide. It has been a few years since I went down on the road.

Went to pull a u turn and the rear kicked out. Low speed crash but still a pain just the same.

Wife was tossed off and I my left went under the bike's primary and took the full weight. Still unknown if it is broken or not. Wife was not injured at all thankfully.

Bike has scratches but nothing major. Rode it back a mile to a friends house.

Just a friendly remainder to all of us that ride that even something as simple as u turn can get us. Ride safe everyone...

Thanks for everyone that came and helped my wife and I. Don't know if any of them are on the forum but I appreciated the help.

Glad that you are ok. You are right, there is no SAFE time on a bike where you can be complacent. Bad can happen anyplace. Glad that it was not to bad for you.

Yeah man, been there done that! Hope that your pride is the only part that got hurt. I slipped on some oil & water on a crosswalk ice bar while doing a u-ie a couple of years ago, at one of the busiest intersections around. It only pinched toe of my boot, thanks to a co-worker EVERYBODY in the county new my name when she started screaming as I went down. THANKS EVELYN!!!

Glad your passenger is ok, and hopefully you too. Those scratched parts will keep you humble for a while, I can relate to that! As they say, shiny side up!

Dropped mine doing a u-ie at Mt. Rushmore in '06. I still haven't replaced my broken brake lever, it reminds me to keep my hands off it.

Sorry to hear about your fall and glad to hear you are basically OK. Now I am going to preach a little bit about helmets. Don't know if you had one on or not, but this is an example of why to always wear one. If you ride enough sooner or later something like this will happen, and if you fall, even at low speed and hit your head you can do major damage. I know a guy from a dealership that slipped on some gravel at about 5-10 mph and went down. Hit his head and was in the hospital for several weeks. It does not take much of a hit.

So now we just never get on the bike without at least a half helmet.

Dropped my 93 fat boy doing a low speed u turn in 93.
Almost dropped my 09 doing the same very tight u turn in front of a speed shop. Very embarrassing. I didn't drop it but it was over and I was fighting with it like a moron.

And in 09 "I knew better" ....
Stuff happens.

been riding since the early 70's and I still don't like doing u-ies. I've got a world of respect watching motor cops entertain doing them so effortlessly in those police rodeos.

Glad you and the wife are ok. To those that have a hard time with u-turns here a few things that may help.
If you turn your head all the way around in the direction of the u.ie...apply a little pressure on the rear brake only, to help keep the bike standing up and keep the clutch in the friction zone and throttle on, a bagger can make a very tight U turn with little effort. No matter how long you ride, there is always more that can be learned. Practice the u's in a parking lot. Biggest key is turning your head all the way around and look where you want to go, keep momentum going and drag the rear brake.
