Default Passenger Back Rest Buzz

I took the tour pack off my 12 UC last year and have a 4 point docking bracket and detachable OEM (Tall) back rest and pad for the occasional passenger. I used the back rest for the first time yesterday and the passenger complained of an annoying buzzing vibration at higher speeds. I knew she didn't ride a lot and I kind of dismissed her complaints as not being used to the nuances of riding.

On the ride home after dropping her off, I reached back to feel the back rest and sure enough it had a very buzzy vibration. I thought it was odd because it seemed to get worse as my speed increased. At 60-70 it was annoyingly bad and I can see why she was complaining. The increased buzzing at speed is just opposite of what I experience as the driver. The faster I ride, the smoother the ride. The back rest buzzing wasn't there below about 40 mph. Above that, the faster I rode, the faster the frequency of the oscillation and the buzzier it became.

The way the pad attaches to the back rest makes it nearly impossible to isolate the pad (rubber washers or bushings) from the support. I'm not sure how the fix this.

Has anyone else's passenger experieced this type of back rest buzzing?

Thanks

the motor vibes are more extreme at the ends of the bike.

I have not had trouble with this at all, but I would suggest soft rubber bumpers between the tourpak and the mount may soften some of the vibes.
This may require longer bolts and riase the T/P a 1/2 inch or so, but probably help.

Most tourpaks have a steel plate as a ground plane for the radio- make sure that it has a good ground connection to the chassis ground.

I have the same issue on my 09 RK. Not sure how to remedy it.

Hmm, my wife never said anything about it on my bike, but she rode on the back of her ex's Fatboy for a long time. I'll have to ask her.
