Hello forum ,riden 03 classic (stock) experiencing whatI believe to the tour pack lid rattling when rear wheel hits larger bumps or holes in the asphalt, everything appears to be tight? Ive tryed puttingsome split rubber hose around the perrimeter of lip(at various places)where the lid meets the lower body of the pac with no success? Any suggestions Homer
My detachable plastic mounts are worn also, the tour pack rocks back and forth. New ones are like $22 from the dealer. I'm going to see if a buddy of mine can make some in his shop out of a harder plastic or possibly aluminum. Should only take a few minutes on a lathe.
2 things to check. First is the cable that holds the lid when it's open, particularly the little ball joint ends. I tied a rubber band on the back of the joints on mine to keep it from rattling. Also check to make sure that the cable is not resting against the lid when it's closed. Second, check the lock assy. Mine had a lot of play between the latch hook and the lock cylinder which rattled a lot. Again I used a rubber band between the hook and the lock cylinder to take up the extra space to keep it from rattling. Hope this helps.
If you have the passenger back rest on the tour pak, check to see if it is loose or rocking back and forth. Mine does. Don't have a fix for it but if someone has come up with one I'd like to get a pm about it.
Successfully stopped my rattles:
1)check the hinge pins - you can tighten them a little bit,I also added some rubber automotive weather stripping to the tour pac lid seam where top and bottom meet and it tightened the hinges up.
2)Check the Lock-center portion rattles unless locked.
taking care of these two items solved my rattles, nice and quiet now.
Check to make sure that you don't have something inside the tour pack that could be the culprit.
If you are going to change out the fasteners on the bottom of the bike, now would be a good time to consider the 2" extension by Kuryakyn! What a difference it makes!
