Now that I know what to do, it's not bad at all. I was frustrated beyond belief but the g/f's dad stopped over and showed how wise he was . Needless to say he could have saved me a ton of time if I would have taken him up on his offer earlier in the week.

I'm learning still, so we're rolling with the punches for now.

You did good by doing it yourself. You saved a ton of money and you now know more about your bike and all it did was cost you your time vs taking it to a shop.

Update:

My girlfriend has learned to solder and shrink wrap, she volunteered so I put her to work! Wires are done, going to mount them tomorrow, rewire and connect the connectors, then put the front fairing back together.

What's left- Idle/throttle cables need replaced, run all new brake lines to the front end, bleed brakes, drain transmission fluid and replace with new fluid after I run the clutch cable. Then done.... I think.

I have a good amount of hours into this bike since Thursday night (10/30). Easily pressing about 15 hours and not even done yet. The things we get ourselves into!

No need to drain the tranny if you have a jack. Raise bike off of floor and place a short 2x4 under each tire and set the bike down on them and lean over in jiffy stand. This way you'll only loose about a spoon full. Your call.

2010 Limited with some stuff!!

Thanks for the pointer, I already purchased the fluids and the bike has just shy of 6k on it. So figured why not, why I'm already this deep into it. Plus it looks good on the service manual, I note everything I do to it, with mileage and date so the next owner gets good notes and a good idea of what was done.

UPDATE: Installed the bars and tested everything. Ran into an issue with the one molex connector on the high beam side of the controls (left side). Everything worked but the volume, so needless to say it was a connection issue within the molex or deustch connector (tested by switching connectors. I will be picking up a new one tomorrow. So all in all, the wiring is good and our soldering went well. Also installed throttle and idle cables, which only took a few minutes. Thankfully I didn't have to remove the tank, propped it up from the rear and good to go.

Problem 1- I stripped the head off the hex key bolt that hold the air filter onto the back plate, had to cut it off, now it's stuck in a stud. I will be ordering a new one tomorrow as well.

Problem 2- Once I got past the air filter, that next "stud" with the hollow center started to round off as well. So, better replace that while I have it off to save future headaches.

Didn't get as far as I would have liked, but progress nonetheless. Hoping by tomorrow to have the front end back together and transmission fluids changed, along with the clutch swapped. Hopefully by Friday I'll be 100% done with the project. Changing bars is not a quick process, especially for a first timer.

Finally finished, had a few headaches throughout the install but that's to be expected. I have some odds and ends that need tied up, but very happy with it! Now, to go for a ride while it's still halfway decent out.
