for u all that use these , whtacha think in conparision to each other,, getting cold on the legs and was gonna buy some last year but did not , kinda leaning on the 1/2 chaps.
thanks mike
I have used chaps for several years and they are very effective. I just got some soft lowers, Desert Dogs. I've ridden with them several times and they do help some with the cold, they help even more with rain. The chaps protect against cold better if you can only have one. both are nice on prolonged rides in cold weather.

I have leather gators that are 30 years old..use them until deep into winter...love um'
Gators are thin as compared to chaps. Plus gators are designed for rain. All of em I have seen.
Chaps would be my choice. Like mkguitar said they will roll up small for a saddle bag.
plus plus on the chaps.... fold 'em, roll 'em, snap 'em, in the bag. When you need them, they are ready and help keep you warm. Plus I do have the soft lowers that help with wet, and some with wind.
I just put on the hard lowers last weekend since it's starting to get cooler. I don't have experience with gators, but I use chaps when it's cooler. I sometimes put on leather overpants instead of chaps...gotta protect the boys too.

YUP AGREEED,, i never take off the lowers ,leave them year round , but have never used chaps or 1/2 chaps , so i guess ill try the 1/2 chaps , since i have heard that full chaps are a pian to deal with.
Not sure I agree about putting on chaps. Maybe the first couple times if you haven't before, but after that it's a breeze. I suggest visiting your local HD store and try on some chaps.
They offer much better protection on the upper leg than 1/2 chaps or gators.
