I contemplated on the same decision and ended up going chrome housing . MC, and the HD stitched grips that adds just enough chrome on the grip end, more than the stock and.............left the buttons black, the contrast is nice
I had chrome housings with black switches on my old RK, and I think this combo looks good on most HD models. On my new SG, however, I like the understated styling with less chrome, and I think on this bike leaving both black is best. I think the black fits the theme with the black inner fairing, black wheels, etc.
When I installed the housings on my RK and Dyna before that, I remember the ordeals well. The wires and buttons are crammed into the housings, and their positions difficult to repeat. Getting it all apart and back together was a two-hour ordeal. Maybe everyone else was more fluid with this process, but it was tedious for me, and not something I want to rush to repeat anytime soon. Maybe that's part of why I think black looks better.
Gotta have the contrast, man...the all chrome thing just blends together...looks like a toaster on the end of your bars...IMHO. Especially on that bike.
The install is NOT a simple thing...yeah...simple concept, but in practice it's a real hassle...just one of those nagging "finger work" (don't say it) deals I think.
