Default Andrews 48h cams

I recently installed a set of these in my 08 SG. I downloaded a map that was close to my setup but the exhaust is a bit different. I was under the impression that these were low to mid range cams. I know the install won't be right until I get it dyno tuned. But can I expect a little more down low than I'm getting now?
They really don't kick in until around 3k rpm. I thought they would be better down low. Any thoughts on this? I'm using the PCV

True duels? These cams need a lil backpressure. Get the tune right. Your gonna love em! Mine pull hard way earlier than 3K. Great bottom end cams for touring bikes!

I don't have true duals they have a crossover in them. I'm going to have it dynoed one day this week. I sure hope the tune wakes them up down low. Don't get me wrong the bike is a lot faster than it was. But I don't feel the down low power everyone speaks of. When I get on it I have to be careful not to over rev it gets there quick but I really don't feel the power til about 2800 to 3000 rpm it definitely isn't down low. cruising at 65 in 6th gear and roll on the throttle its a dog. Maybe the tune will get that out.

I would be in 5th gear at 65mph not 6th. There's your problem.

I believe its the gearing on the '08, as its the same on my '07. Those guys talking about how great it accelerates down low have the '09 and up bikes with 2 more teeth on the rear sprocket allowing higher rpm through the same vehicle speeds. I also expected more down low and although it does better than stock, its a little weaker than I thought it would be. Up higher it really rolls though and sounds awesome all through the rpm ranges.

I'm sure we will hear the experts here scream "it's the tune!" as that is always the stock response, but tuning cannot always overcome inherent designs of the gearing, engine and camshaft.

Guntoter I was thinking the same thing. Although it does need a tune. I really don't think I'm going to get that bottom end without changing the rear sprocket.

I agree with OldEnuf. These engines do better in the mid ranges. IMHO to many people are actually lugging their engines. Get your engine up closer to 3,000 and it will breathe better; I think you'll notice the difference.

GNrider It does really well at 3000 rpms. it's a dog when taking of at a stop light though. I don't want to do hole shots through town at every stop light it's fun but draws attention lol. I do all sorts of riding short runs through town during the week and weekends I go as far as 500+ mile rides I want the bike smooth through the whole range of rpms. Don't get me wrong I think these engines shine at 3k and above with any cam.
