I think alot would depend on the (1) Looks, and (2) the SOUND. If they could fit a v-rod engine in an Ultra chassis, and come up with a way to make the radiator unobtrusive....I would buy one.

Yup John....I think you hit the nail on the head. One of the main things that have drawn me to Harley-Davidsons over the years is the looks. Although many of copied it, nobody has gotten it right, IMO. I have a very good friend who has a Gold Wing andI must admit that his bike has just about everything....except looks. I happen to think its butt-ugly and have told him that. Now my Ultra?....Shucks, I often times just stand and look at it....and I've been riding for a LONG time. If they could hide the radiator right, I think they'd be on to something putting the V-Rod engine in a touring frame.
There have been rumors about this since the v-rod was introduced. From what I know the fuel mileage is one of the problems. A bagger that gets 30+ MPGis called a HONDA!

Moe....I don't think I understand what you're saying. Are you saying the V-Rod engine gets poor fuel mileage? My wife's V-Rod actually gets a touch better MPG than my Ultra, but due to its smaller tank, her range is a little shorter.
Water Cooled v-4 Shaft drive, air bags... Hmmm let's call it a Harleda... or a Honley.. Maybe THX DVD system With a pop out 10.5 wide screen... (sorry officer, I was watching "American Chopper" and some jerk pulled close enough to watch it with me...)
