I am considering trading my 2006 Road King Classic in on a 2008 Ultra and I am hoping for some improvements such as ABS and a fuel gauge that works. If a water cooled engine means more power, then I am all for that as well.
RanD I have a friend that rides a v-rod that gets 34 mpg I am getting around 40 mpg. Not to mention the Ultra is heavier than the v-rod and we are 2 up towing a trailer. That us why I posted what I did. Maybe there is something wrong with his bike?

That's what I thought you meant. Well, I haven't checked my wife's V-Rod mileage lately, but the last time I did, she was getting a little better than me. I don't get quite 40mpg with my Ultra though. I'm closer to 37-38mpg unless I'm just cruising down the superslab. You're right about the weight and wind resistance thing though. I think the V-Rod is only like 630 pounds.
34mpg....40mpg...who freakin cares when your gettin mileage like that on ANYTHING! Damn if only my V-10 F-250 got half that[:@] Give me a 120hp bagger that gets 30mpg an I would be one happy camper..( and NO!, I aint spendin 5k plus to buid my current motor[8D]).
If they would drop the vRod engine into the existing touring chassis, I would definitely consider it. The current vRod styling just doesn't excite me much. I've seen a couple of the vRods with the Road Glide style fairing and hard bags, and they just look clumsy. But dress up that motor with fins and place the radiator in such a way that it doesn't overwhelm the look of the bike and they might pull it off.
If Harley introduces anew FLH design with an air cooled v-twin then you know they're not planning on going to a water cooled engine across the board for quite a long time. Those redesigns require long term committments. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a V-Rod Tourer. That is supposed to be one bullet proof motor.
What models are rumored to be discontinured?? Haven't heard that one.
