1012 103" with TW-222 cams, true duals and ThunderHeader slip-ons. Came across these somewhere.... has anyone tried them? The dyno results they post are pretty impressive if they are accurate. I'm just trying to buy back some torque lost to my true dual/muffler combo that I have. I know if I went to a 2-1-2 or 2-1 I would regain some torque, but I really don't want to leave the sound/look that I have now.
Yes, they do work. I've had them on my last two bikes...because I always take out the baffles or modify them and the cones give back the backpressure that is lost doing that.
I have used DK customs TTI's on a Triumph Scrambler, a Sportster, a Fat Bob, a Tri-Glide (my Dad's), and my current bike a 2013 Street Glide. On all of them I cut out the factory baffles and installed TTI's for both sound and low end response. I rode all of them before and after and with no baffles compared to the TTI's has always been a very noticeable response when accelerating from a stop or at low speed. The Scrambler and Sporty were not that bad with no baffles. The Fat Bob, the Tri-Glide, and my Street Glide were all sluggish after no baffles. Soon as I did the TTI's sound was a much nicer tone with no more of the hollow metallic chamber sound. Power difference was very noticeable down low.
When I had the Fat Bob I bought a PV tuner from Dynojet here in town and was able to load a preset map close to what I had setup and auto tune to adjust for the TTI's and did the same for the Tri Glide and the Street Glide. Positive results all the way across. Have not had any of them dyno'd so can't say if the hp/tq numbers advertised are even close but the feel of the response in the bikes is very noticeable.
I originally had the V&H Big Radius 2-2 w/out baffles on my '12 Street Glide and had the cones installed. My dyno guy in town was able to get me to 93 lb TQ with those pipes and cones. Like Xantasm said, it really makes a difference on low end having them installed vs. not installed for added back pressure.
It'll work. Had friends that pulled their baffles ,trick up a screw with a washer welded on the end and put it inside the end of the muffler to regain torque. doesnt take much back pressure.
We love hearing the success stories from our customers. We can talk all day long about how and why these thunder torque inserts work, but nothing is as good as customers giving first hand accounts!!
I installed these on my 98 sporty with drag pipes and couldn't believe how much better it runs and sounds. I hope to get a road king by spring and these will be the first mod i do to it.
I made a set of these for my wifes sportster. for about $4.00 I put them in the dragpipes about 8" from the end of the pipe so they couldn't be seen. Helped a lot on torque gain. But as said it's just a band-aid for poor exhaust.
